Recipe for Indian Spice Wheel: Masoor dal
Ingredients
1/4 c oil (canola or vegetable)
1 small yellow onion finely sliced
1 c red split masoor lentils
2 c water or more as needed
1 teaspoon red chili powder - adjust to your spice level
½ tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp salt or to taste
1 T garlic paste
Rinse lentils 3 times then soak for 30 mins, rinse again and drain
saute onions in oil until golden
add lentils, garlic, water and spices
bring to a boil and then reduce heat and cover
cook until mixture is to your desired consistency
serve with basmati rice or naan
Optional tadka:
In 2T of oil, add 1/2 tsp cumin seeds, and a few slices of onions and saute until golden. Pour over dal then serve.
